The plan is simple. Build a boat. Sail the world.

We're Heini and Miikka. We work hard, we like our jobs, and we're leaving anyway — we gave ourselves three years to jump ship. Since the first of January 2024 we have filmed the whole process: the finances, the boat selection, the plans for a life onboard.

The boat is Koru, a 50-foot aluminium performance catamaran called ZeeJager152, hull #1, built in New Zealand. Two of us, two Australian Shepherds, one ocean at a time.

So, who are… The Sailing Finns?

Two Finns who decided the sensible plan could wait. We are documenting every step of getting out, including the parts that do not look good on camera.

The boat

Fifty feet of aluminium, based on a Mumby 48.

We started from the Mumby 48 and reworked it into a modern liveaboard without giving up the performance we chose the design for. Electric motors, 48-volt systems, eight tonnes empty. She gets built in New Zealand.

Below the waterline she is Tim Mumby's design, licensed, in 4 mm aluminium. Above it, almost nothing is standard: galley up, heads midship, bigger flatter windows, a cockpit roof three times the size to carry the solar, and a raised helm on a swinging pedestal. All of it inside a budget of under half a million.
